2010 Fish Reports

7/18/10
Fishing this week continues to be a really good multi-species fishery.
Everything like Chinooks, Lakers, Steelies, Coho, pinks, walleye and even a few
browns have been taken. We had a blow on Saturday so that may change things but
before that it was very good. The keys are to find structure and crash it also
look for baitfish as well. Those 2 things have been key in catching fish.
Another important thing is to fish high. Most anglers are fishing down riggers
no deeper than 45ft down also lead cores of 3, 5, and 7 colors have also been
good. Dipseys and slide divers have also been working, sliders on the down
riggers have also been good.

Rogers City
Good fishing spots have been Adams pt, straight out from the harbor and towards
40 mile pt. The best depths have been 50-120ft of water and fishing the top
half of the water column. Good colors have been green, blue, blue and silver,
orange and silver, orange and black, blue dolphin, green dolphin, and the
extended glow lures that glow green. There also has been a very good late bite
from about 9pm and on.

Presque Isle
Great multi-species fishery here as well. Good places to fish have been between
the 2 lights and off the big light house point. The best depths have been
anywhere from 60-120ft of water and fishing the top 50ft or so. The green
dolphins and blue dolphins have been hot. The greens and the blues have been
very good. Try oranges up high for Steelies.

Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.
7-11-10
WHAT A NEAT WEEK TO WET A LINE IN NORTHERN LAKE HURON. ANGLERS ARE CATCHING SO
MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF SALMON AND TROUT SPECIES. BONUS WALLEYES HAVE ALSO BEEN
CAUGHT. THEY ARE CATCHING LAKERS, PINKS, COHO SALMON, STEELHEAD,
CHINOOKS, WALLEYE AND EVEN AN OCCASIONAL BROWN.

ROGERS CITY
BEEN THE BETTER OF THE 2 PORTS FOR HOOKING INTO A CHINOOK SALMON. THEY ARE
GETTING A REAL MIXED BAG OF SALMON AND TROUT INCLUDING SOME BONUS WALLEYE. BEST
HAS BEEN FROM THE MARINA TO FORTY MILE PT AND EVEN PAST IT TOWARDS HAMMOND BAY.
THE BITE HAS BEEN A GOOD EVENING BITE. THE BEST DEPTHS HAVE BEEN FROM 50-120FT
OF WATER AND FISHING ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN IN THE WATER COLUMN. LEADCORES OF
THREE TO SEVEN COLORS HAVE BEEN GOOD ALONG WITH SLIDERS OFF DOWNRIGGERS. GOOD
COLORS HAVE BEEN BLUE AND GREEN DOLPHINS, ORANGES, GREENS, BLUE AND SILVER,
FLINTSTONE LURES BOUNTY HUNTER, GREEN WHALE, CORNBREAD, AND THE X GLOW LURES
EARLY AND LATE. MOONSHINE YELLOWTAIL LATE HAS ALSO BEEN GOOD.

PRESQUE ISLE
A GOOD MIXED BAG OF SALMON AND TROUT.. BEST DEPTHS HAVE BEEN 50--20 AND FISHING
THE TOP HALF OF THE WATER COLUMN. LEADCORES OF THREE TO SEVEN COLORS HAVE BEEN
GOOD ALONG WITH SLIDERS OFF THE DOWNRIGGERS.

THE FISH SEEM TO BE HIGH, A VERY GOOD LATE EVENING BITE, AND FEEDING VERY WELL
ON SMELT. THERE ALSO HAS BEEN A LOT OF ONE YEAR OLD KINGS WHICH WILL PROVIDE
FOR A GREAT FISHERY IN ANOTHER YEAR. UNTIL NEXT WEEK TIGHT LINES GO FISHING AND
HAVE FUN.

7-6-10
We are now in the transitional time between the salmon coming in and the lakers
moving out. Lakers can still be taken but go deeper and find some colder water,
smaller ones can still be caught in close. Now would be an exceptional time to
fish offshore like 150-200ft of water and fish the top 50 or so feet. Look for
scum lines and bugs on the surface fish will be feeding close by.
Rogers City
Kings are showing up but not in any impressive numbers yet but some good size.
Targeting them has yielded some success. Find structure and bait has been key
also fishing very early before sun rise and well after sun set has been the
best. Fish waters 80-120ft deep and fish the top 50ft. Stealth has been very
important as well get lines and lures out and away from the boat. Good colors
to try have been black and white, monkey puke, bloody nose, purple and green,
green with gold ladder back, blue whale, after dark or very early try things
that glow green.
Presque Isle
Many smaller throw back Lakers. A few kings taken off the big lighthouse point.
Just really starting to show up. Try the 80-120ft of water and fish the top 50
or so feet.

Give it a couple of weeks and some salmon should be around weather permitting.
Was out Friday and went a perfect 8-8. 6 kings 1 steelie, 1 coho. Everything was
high with 5 colorleadcore and sliders on the downriggers, darker colors and very
fast almost 3.0 at the ball.

6-26-10
Fishing this past week has been tough. We have had a lot of small miniature
fronts go in and out all week long. Lots of rain along with thunder storms
which have scattered the fish. The best thing is to concentrate on structure
and look for baitfish. A real variety of fish have been taken though, Chinooks,
steelhead, Coho, lake trout, atlantics, and pinks.

Rogers City
Fishing straight out and south or west toward 40 mile pt has been the best
fishing spots. Good depths have been anywhere from 55-120ft of water and
fishing 35-65ft down. Good colors have been green dolphin, blue and silver,
green and silver, monkey puke, and orange and silver. Oranges have been very
good on lead cores of 1-5 colors for steelies.

Presque Isle
Quite a variety of fish have been taken Chinooks, steelies, Coho, pinks, lake
trout along with an occasional pink. They have been fishing 60-120ft of water
and fishing the top 65ft. Good colors have been green dolphin, monkey puke,
orange and silver and blue and silver.
It looks like a very good 4th of July week coming up with some warm summer
weather. Chinooks should be showing up in some numbers with in the next couple
of weeks. Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.
6-20-10
Angling action continues to pick up along with the catching. This past week has
featured some fantastic steelhead fishing within a mile from shore. A huge bug
hatch has spurred the whole bite. Anglers are picking them up just about
anywhere just look for bugs on the surface and flat seas for best action. A
great mixed bag fishery has also become real with Chinooks, Coho, atlantics,
steelhead, lake trout, pink salmon, along with an occasional walleye and brown
taken. Both ports have been very active with many fish being taken and a real
variety.

Rogers City
Fish are being taken just about anywhere. Focus on structure and look for the
baitfish. Good spots are 40 mile pt, state park, Adams pt and straight out from
the harbor. Another very good spot for steelies has been from 40 mi pt light
house up to Hammond bay. They have been taking a lot of steelies and lakers in
this area. The best depths have been from 40-70ft of water and fishing the top
38 ft or so. Leadcore 1-5 colors have been very good. Try using orange spoons
on lead core, greens have also been good along with the silvers. Downriggers
covering the 25-35ft down have been good. Try using spoons with green, blue,
orange, or with silver on any of these colors as well. The smaller spoons have
been working the best. Try fishing a small flasher and spoon.

Presque Isle
From Stone port to the red can has been the best area to fish. Try depths from
50-80ft and fish the top 45ft or so using downriggers and leadcore. Good colors
have been oranges and silvers up high along with greens, blues, and chartreuse.

I finally got out this week on Friday for a short time before the lake got
rough. Picked up a really nice king 12lbs not bad for the first trip. Seems
weird our first fish is a salmon.

6/13
ITS BEEN A GOOD WEEK OF FISHING WHEN WEATHER BEHAVES AND ANGLERS CAN GET OUT.
AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF A MULTITUDE OF SPECIES CAN BE TAKEN CHINOOKS, LAKE TROUT,
PINKS, COHO, AND ATLANTIC SALMON IN GOOD NUMBERS. THE BEST PLACES TO FIND FISH
IS TO FOCUS ON AREAS OF STRUCTURE FOR BOTH PORTS.

ROGERS CITY
GOOD AREAS TO DROP A LINE ARE 40 MI PT, SEAGULL PT, STATE PARK, AND ADAMS PT.
WATCH OUT FOR COMMERCIAL FISHING NETS FROM THE STATE PARK TO 40MI PT, MOST ARE
DEEPER THAN 55FT OF WATER. GOOD DEPTHS HAVE BEEN 50-80FT OF WATER FISHING THE
TOP 45FT. USE DOWNRIGGERS SET 45-25FT AND FISH 1-5 COLORS OF LEADCORE OFF
PLANER BOARDS. A HUGE BUG HATCH OCCURED SUNDAY AND LOTS OF STEELIES TAKEN ON
LEADCORE WITH ORANGE SPOONS. ORANGES GREENS, BLUES, CHARTRUSES IN COMBINATION
WITH SILVER HAVE ALL BEEN GOOD COLORS.

PRESQUE ISLE
GREAT MULTI SPECIES FISHERY RIGHT NOW. GOOD PLACES TO FISH HAVE BEEN AREAS OF
STRUCTURE STRAIGHT OUT, STONEPORT, FALSE PRESQUE ISLE AND BETWEEN THE TWO
LIGHTS. BEST DEPTHS 50-80FT AND FISHING NO DEEPER THAN 45FT DOWN. PRETTY MUCH
THE SAME COLORS ETC AS ROGERS CITY.
UNTIL NEXT WEEK TIGHT LINES AND GOOD LUCK AND GO FISHING.

6/6/10
Well a soggy weekend for this area but the rain was well needed. This should
help decrease the dangerous fire conditions we have had for the last couple of
months. It should also create some run off which may indeed bring in some
baitfish and fish along the shoreline. We may even get a late spring brown
trout run along the shore line where brown water is. Dont be surprised to see
any of the other species as well. We are heading into a transition time between
the major lake trout fishery and the beginning of the summer salmon mixed bag
fishery. The lakers have begun to spread out more and cover more of the water
column. They are not just close to the bottom anymore especially in Rogers
City. I would expect the lake trout to be getting harder and harder to catch as
they move around more and out to deeper cooler water.

Rogers City
Its been an awesome spring lake trout fishery here but its starting to wind down
towards the tail end. Now they will be taken in deeper water and more through
out the water column as they hunt for food. Try fishing waters at least 50ft
and up. Fish the bottom 20ft or so and dont be afraid in fishing them through
out the water column. they are getting many of them like that now. Spoons in a
variety of colors mainly green and silver, blue and silver, chartruse, and
oranges up high on leadcores or high set down riggers. A dodger with spin glow
has also been very good. From about the state park to and up past 40 mile pt
light has been the best for fishing. Most of the anglers have been fishing this
way. A few salmon have been mixed in and many of them have been taken on
dodgers and spin glows fished higher in the water column for lakers. Still a
mixed bag fishery in not knowing what will be caught out there. As we get more
into June things should really heat up for a great mixed bag fishery of
chinooks, lake trout, atlantics, steelies, pinks and coho.
Adams point has been quiet but a few anglers have been getting lakers that way,
again fishing deeper water now like 50-60ft and close to the bottom. Cow bells
with spin glow and dodgers with spin glow or small walleye spoons behind them
have been good.

Presque Isle
Lakers are scattered all over the place in shallow deep where ever. The best
seems to be from 30-70ft of water and fishing the bottom 15ft or so. Once again
cowbells with spin glows or peanuts and dodgers with spin glows or peanuts have
been taking most of the lakers. Atlantics can still be taken, fish the top 8ft
with small bodybaits that look like a rainbow trout or smolt pattern and smelt.
they are also acidently getting a chinook or two and atlantics once in a while
with lake trout lures. A lot of smaller lakers are being taken and lots of
sorting to get legal 22in fish.

The really good news is that anglers have been telling me that they have been
marking lots of bait balls lately at both ports. This is very good news. Once
the salmon figure out they are around fishing should pick up. Plenty of food in
the stomachs mostly smelt and gobies but a few alewives and stickle backs. Most
of the prey items have been on the smaller side so try spoons and body baits on
the smaller side. I am hoping to finally get out fishing after quite a lay up
after some surgery. Hopefully I will have a personal fish report for next week.
Until then tight lines and good luck fishing.

 5-30
What a gorgeous week and weekend for fishing. Lots and lots of fishing pressure
along with plenty of fish caught. Lake trout fishing has hit its peak while I
have seen my first few chinook salmon taken along with a 15lb steelhead caught
off the wall in Rogers City and quite a mixed bag fishery fishing from the
boats. Anything is fair game right now. The silver fish are finally becoming
active and starting to show up.

Rogers City
Fish are being caught just about all over the place from south of the harbor to
north of the harbor towards 40 mi pt. Best depths have been from 40-90ft of
water and fishing structure. The top half of the water column is where most of
the silver fish are being taken while the lakers are coming in the bottom 10ft.
The lakers are being caught on cowbells with spin glows and dodgers with spin
glows along with spoons that are green and silver, gold and yellow and
chartruse. The silver fish have been taken on a variety of colors greens,
blues, purples have been the best with silver on them. Smelt like patterns or
things that look like gobies and smelt along with small spoons and body baits
would be the best to try.

Presque Isle
Very good for atlantics and plenty of lakers as well. The atlantics are being
taken very high on boards and lures run the top 15ft of the water column. Try
body baits that look like a smolting fish or rainbow trout. Bright colors like
orange red and yellow lures have also been working. The lakers are being taken
on cowbells with spin glows and dodgers with spin glows. The best depths seem
to be 45-70ft of water and fishing just off the bottom. The atlantics are
coming 50-70ft of water either between the 2 light houses or south between
stoneport and false Presque Isle.

As long as the weather stays like this fishing will only continue to improve
along with the silver fish. Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.

5-23
Weather, winds sunshine, fishing its all been a very positive week. A beautiful
week. Fishing was great. Lots of lake trout and a few atlantics, steelhead,
browns and chinooks mixed in with the catch this past week. Fish were moving a
lot so every day fishing was a little different meaning they had either moved to
a little deeper water or moved in a little be bit depending upon the water temp
and if the seas were dead flat. Mornings have also been a little better than
afternoon and evening fishing.

Rogers City
Lakers and more lakers. Good fishing pretty much south, north and straight out.
Good depths have been anywhere from 15-60ft of water and has been varying daily.
The calm water fish have been deeper. The best depths have been 40-60ft for the
most part. Cowbells with spin glows or dodgers with spin glows have been good.
Spoons with orange and gold, blue and silver, chartruse, green and blue, orange
and copper, and green have been all good colors to try for the atlantics,
browns, steelhead and kings. Body baits resembling smelt and gobies have also
been good. The fish are eating very well, I have been seeing smelt, a few
alewives, sticklebacks and lots of gobies even in the atlantic salmon and
especially the lake trout.

Presque Isle
Very good lake trout fishing. Good depths have been from 45-80ft of water
fishing just off the bottom like 5-8 ft. Dodgers and spin glows or cowbells
with spin glows have been the ticket. Atlantics are still being taking as well,
fish the 40-60ft of water and fish the top 25-30ft with bright colors orange and
green has been very good. Bodybaits resembling smelt and gobies would be a good
bet too. Try fishing between the 2 lighthouses. Lakers are being taken off the
big light house point going on and off of the structure there.

I look for fishing lakers to be good for another week or two and should peek
this week. Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.
5-16-10
Its been a beautiful weekend for fishing.  Not on the job but things have really
taken off especially for lake trout.  Over the next week or so I look for some
excellent lake trout fishing from both ports.  The best part about it is that
these fish are easy catching right now being in the shallows.  Less then 60ft of
water and primarily 30-50ft is best.

Rogers City
Good lake trout fishing most boats are coming in with anywhere from 3-5 fish.
The best depths have been 25-55ft of water and fishing the bottom 5-8ft in the
deeper water and in the shallow stuff anglers are high lining cowbells with a
little weight to get them close to the bottom.  Cowbells with spin glows or
dodgers with spin glows have been the ticket.  Anglers are also picking up an
occasional steelhead, Atlantic, brown and Chinook salmon.  They are fishing
lines higher in the water column with planer boards high lines and 1-3 colors of
leadcore.  Spoons and body baits are the mainstay for fishing this way.  Good
colors have been blue and silver, pink orange and copper, green and silver, fire
tiger, orange and green.

Presque Isle
Earlier in the week it was hot for atlantics at Presque Isle around Stone port
and down towards Rockport.  Anglers were high lining and using 1-3 colors of
leadcore off boards.  Once again spoons and body baits were the ticket.   Good
colors have been blue and silver, pink orange and copper, green and silver, fire
tiger, orange and green.  They seem to love stuff that has bright orange green,
and yellow all on one lure.  Lakers are also being taken.  They seem to be  a
little deeper here right now from about 40-60ft of water and fishing just off
the bottom.  Cowbells with spin glows and dodgers with spin glows have been
good.  Good places to try have been north of the red can out from the big light
house and the point associated with it.

Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.

4-28-10

I don’t have anything really new but I know guys are getting a few fish. It’s been mostly tough weather lots of wind and rough seas as of late.  Fishing south from calcite to Adams Pt has been the best.  Body baits run off boards have been the best in Shallow from about 15-30ft of water.  Good colors have been blue and silver chartreuse and silver fire tiger, and orange and gold.  Not a whole lot had been happening off the wall as of late.  They are getting a mix bag of atlantics, browns and steelhead.  Nice sized fish.  Many of them have smelt in their stomachs from last year’s hatch which is a very good sign for things to come this summer.
The good news is that lake trout season opens this weekend beginning on Saturday.  From about trout river to Detour the size limit has changed for Lake trout this season.  The maximum size that can be kept is 27inches in length.  There is no minimum.  Anglers can still keep 3 fish per person.  From trout river south to Black River the size limit is 22in and up.  The bag limit is 3 per angler.
Anglers fishing lake trout will want to fish shallow water and where rocky substrate is present, gobies live there and the Lakers love to eat them.  The depths I would try would be from about 20-50ft of water.  The shallower water try dragging cowbells with a little weight to get them down in the deeper water fish just about 5ft off bottom with cowbells and spin glos.

5-11-10

Rogers City
It’s been a tough week of fishing.  Old man winter decides to return for one more
blast of cold air and snow.  Along with that lots of wind and cold temps.
Before all of that we had some really nice rains.  All of the rivers are way up
and lots of brown water entering Lake Huron in this area.  With warmer temps
expected this week I expect fishing along the shore line in small boats to
really pick up.  The brown water is a real draw to bring fish close to shore.
Its a tad warmer than the main lake water and its a magnet for bait fish etc.
A few anglers have been casting from the break wall here in town along with
fishing around the docks.  I have seen nothing caught.  They have been casting
either spoons or body baits.  Bright colors are much better in the very stained
water.  Try chartreuse and silver, fire tiger, orange and gold, black and gold,
and silver, or things that resemble smelt.
A few anglers are trolling and I weighed a nice 8lb Atlantic salmon taking
Saturday.  The fish was chuck full of stickle backs and smelt.  They were small
so small body baits and spoons should work the best.  They are fishing
relatively close to shore no deeper than 25ft of water.  They are using planer
boards and running body baits at least 100ft off the board.  The best is to
follow the brown water close to the shorelines right now.  West of the harbor
towards seagull point or south towards swan bay and in calcite harbor are good
places to try.
All of the boat docks are in at Rogers City, the cleaning station and marina
does not open til May right now.
Some steelies have been taken in the Ocqueoc River drifting spawn or flies.
Should be more entering the river this week with all of the rain we have
received.
Until next week tight lines and good luck fihsing.

4-4-10

Fishing is just starting for this area up here.  Most anglers are just
uncovering their boats and preparing them for the season.    No real reports to
speak of although a few early bird anglers have been out.  It’s been very tough
fishing so far.  With hardly any river run off which is warmer water that draws
fish close to shore just isn’t around at all.  Most of the in close water is very
clear which has the fish very wary.  If not much river run off occurs anglers
will be forced to wait for the water to warm up a little more and that should
draw more baitfish in closer as well as the fish.

The few anglers I have talked to the last couple of days have been reporting a
number of follows from smaller browns, they just are not hitting for some
reason.  I can attest to this as I have fished a few times some follows from
smaller fish but no takers.  A few browns have been taken and so far they have
been smaller between 17-23in so far.

Anglers have been casting a variety of spoons and body baits.  Try colors that
resemble smelt, blue and silver, silver, green and silver and fire tiger.   Boat
anglers are running planer boards with body baits in blue and silver, fire
tiger, green, and things that resemble smelt.  They are running lures way back
from the boat and away from it due to very clear water conditions.  Mostly
browns and atlantics have been targeted.  Until next week tight lines and good
luck fishing.

10-25

Fishing, What fishing? Its been a very bad week for just about any type of fishing activates.
Been very windy rough and rather wet. We have once again settled into this wet rainy pattern like
we had earlier on. I have heard of no one fishing or even seen any anglers this past week during
any of my shifts at either port.

Rogers City
Should be some browns starting to show up around the break wall soon. Try casting minnow type baits,
Cleo's or crocodiles. Colors of choice could be chartreuse, blue and silver, green and silver or body
baits that look like smelt and emerald shiners. Boat anglers are pretty much done. I did hear of an
angler out last week towards 40 mile pt. Had either a nice king, steelie, or Atlantic on but lost it
close to the boat. They said they marked tons of baitfish from 85-120ft of water off 40 mile pt.

10-19
Fishing this past week has been very little. Once again the weather just has not been very good, windy
and cold for the most part. Anglers still should be able to find some fish especially the younger salmon
steelhead, Coho, and browns. Finding the baitfish has been key. A lot of what was around the end of Sept has
moved somewhere.
Rogers City
Try in shallow water from calcite harbor to swan bay and Adams pt. Another good place to try would be
straight out of the harbor and west towards 40 mile pt. Try waters from 45-70ft deep and fish the top half of
the water column or try up high with orange type spoons for steelies. Lead cores and slide divers fished in
the top 20ft should be good. The water has cooled considerably so once baitfish can be found fish should be there.
Other colors that have been good have been green, blue and silver or purple. We fished Wed last week off swan
bay area and picked up a nice Atlantic and lost 2 others orange glow and blue were good colors. The 35-50ft
of water was the best. Structure would be another great place to try. Try the tructure off 40 mile pt light
 or Adams pt.

Presque Isle
Fishing has slowed, the bait has moved on and so have the fish. Still some fish can be taken. Try fishing
straight out from the harbor and towards the 2 lighthouses where the structure is located. Good colors have
been green, blue, and purple. Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.
10-11-09
Fishing this past week has been a real battle, so far mother nature continues to win with high winds, seas,
and cold temps. Anglers have been checking the 2 marinas for salmon on a regular basis but not much to show
for, very few around. Some have been taking in the Ocqueoc river. Most anglers have been focusing on hunting
right now although if some descent weather ever allows it, pretty good fishing awaits for those
last few trips of the season on the big lake.

Rogers City
Most of the adult salmon have entered the weir a few do remain in the bay. Over 1100 fish have been harvested
for eggs so far and it looks like another egg take set for Tues. The fish that have been returning have been
very nice fish and very healthy. No real angling effort at all this past week due to the weather. If anglers
can get out some good fishing west of the harbor for juvenile kings along with steelhead, atlantics, browns,
and coho. Fish 30-65ft of water and fish the top half of the water column. Good colors to try are, blue, green,
purple. 3 and 5 color lead has been very good off planer boards.

Presque Isle
This is the bright spot. Limit catches of Chinooks, along with a mixed in Atlantic, steelhead brown or Coho
have been caught. Mostly straight out of the harbor up to the big light house and south towards stone port.
Anglers are fishing 30-65ft of water. Downriggers set the top 25-35ft of water and 3 or 5 color lead core
off boards has been good. Try blue, green or purple for colors.

A reminder lake trout season is closed and has been since Oct 1st, all Lakers must be released right away.
Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.
10-4-09
FISHING HAS PRETTY MUCH BEEN AT A STAND STILL FOR MOST OF THE WEEK DUE TO GALE FORCE WINDS. THE WEEKEND HAS
BEEN DESCENT BUT VERY LITTLE ANGLING PRESSURE. A GOOD SLUG OF FISH HAS ENTERED SWAN RIVER AMD WEIR.
ROGERS CITY
ANGLERS ARE REMINDED THEY ARE NOT TO BE FISHING SWAM RIVER OR THE MOUTH, ITS CLOSED DUE TO THE WEIR BEING IN PLACE.
A FEW BOATS HAVE ANCHORED AND CASTING IN THE BAY WITH VERY LIMITED SUCCESS. THEY ARE CASTING WITH CLEO'S OR
FIRE TIGER BODY BAITS. THE WATER IS COLD AND THEIR SHOULD BE SOME SILVER FISH OUT ON THE 40-70 FT OF WATER NORTH AND SOUTH.
TRY EARLY SUMMER FISHING PATTERNS. NOT MUCH HAS BEEN FROM PIER DOCK OR SHORE ANGLING AT ALL IN THE AREA.

PRESUE ISLE
NO ANGLERS HAVE BEEN TRYING IT WHILE HERE. MOSTLY WIND. A COUPLE HAVE BEEN CASTING FROM THE DOCKS BUT NO LUCK.
SHOULD BE SILVER FISH HERE AS WELL IF ANGLERS CAN GET OUT. TRY EARLY SUMMER FISH PATTERNS.

THE SILVERS SHOULD BE AROUND AND FEEDING HEAVILY IN PREP FOR WINTER. A REMINDER LAKE TROUT SEASON IS CLOSED NOW.
UNTIL NEXT WEEK TIGHT LINES AND GOOD LUCK FISHING.
9-28-09
ROGERS CITY CONTINUES TO HAVE SOME GOOD SALMON FISHING FOR STAGING KINGS OFF SWAN BAY, ADAMS PT AND CALCITE.
SHALLOW WATER FISHING INSIDE 30FT. HIGH LINING WITH BOARDS AND J PLUGS AND OR BOMBERS. DEEPER WATERS CONTINUE
TO HOLD QUITE A MIXED BAG SINCE COLD WATER HAS RETURNED. CHINOOKS, STEELIES, LAKERS, COHO ALONG WITH AN OCCASIONAL
BROWN AND WALLEYE. LOTS AND LOTS OF BAIT HAS BEEN AROUND MOSTLY SMELT. GOOD COLORS HAVE BEEN BLUE AND SILVER,
PURPLE, GREEN, AND STUFF THAT LOOKS LIKE SMELT.

PRESQUE ISLE
EXCELLENT SOME MIXED BAG LIMITS OVER THE WEEKEND. GETTING CHINOOKS, LAKERS, COHO,A MD STEELHEAD. GOOD COLORS HAVE
BEEN BLUE, PURPLE, ORANGE, AND YELLOW. GOOD DEPTHS HAVE BEEN 35-70FT FISHING THE TOP 40FT.

A BIG COLD FRONT EXPECTED THIS NEXT WEEK WILL PRETTY MUCH SEND THE SPAWMERS UP SWAN RIVER AND TRIGGER THE IMMATURE F
ISH TO A FEEDING SPREE IN PREPARING FOR WINTER.

STONE PORT HAS ALSO BEEN GOOD BUT WATCH OUT FOR COMMERCIAL FISH NETS.

8-23-09

WEATHER ONCE AGAIN PROVEN TO BE THE WINNER THIS WEEK. LOTS OF POP UP STORMS AND UNSETTLED WEATHER HAS
BEEN THE RULE. IF ANGLERS STAND UP TO IT THEY HAVE BEEN REWARDED WITH SOME NICE KINGS NO NUMBERS.
AN OCCASIONAL STEELIE, LAKER, WALLEYE AND BROWN ALSO TAKEN.
ROGERS CITY
TONS OF BAITFISH HAVE BEEN SEEN ESPECIALLY TOWARDS 40MI PT. VERY FEW ANGLERS FISHING THERE IF ANY.
MOST HAVE BEEN FISHING SOUTH TOWARDS SWAN BAY AND ADAMS PT. THE FISH WERE THERE BUT SEEMED TO HAVE
SCATTERED FROM THERE THE LAST DAY OR TWO. GOOD DEPTHS HAVE BEEN FROM 45-90 FT OF WATER. MOST HAVE
BEEN PUTTING A SPREAD OUT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. SPOONS, J PLUGS, AND ATTRACTORS RUNNING SQUIDS BEHIND
THEM HAVE BEEN THE BEST. GODD COLORS HAVE BEEN GREENS, BLUES, SILVER, AND THE BRIGHTER COLORS UP HIGH.
THE LAKE TURNED OVER THIS WEEK, HOPEFULLY IT WILL CHANGE FOR THE GOOD. DEFINITELY SOME COLD WATER AROUND.
GLOW STUFF EARLY AND LATE HAS ALSO BEEN GOOD.

PRESQUE ISLE
FINALLY WITH THE TURNOVER OF THE LAKE THINGS ARE HAPPENING. SALMON, LAKERS, WALLEYE ALONG WITH STEELIES
HAVE BEEN THE MAIN CATCH. STRAIGHT OUT FROM THE HARBOR RED CAN OR NORTH BETWEEN THE 2 LIGHTHOUSES IN

GLOW STUFF EARLY AND LATE HAS BEEN GOOD.

8-16-09

We are finally getting summer along with it being that time of year when the Chinooks and all the other
fish go on feeding sprees or whatever to prepare themselves for spawning.  Anglers are finally picking a
up a good mixed bag of Chinooks, steelhead, lakers, occasional brown walleye and Coho.  The cold water
has finally shown up and has also helped make fishing a little easier.  Baitfish have been prevalent in
many areas especially in the shallower waters.  I look for it to be the very best here for the next
3-4 weeks.  The adult salmon are here but not even close to spawning yet.  Eggs and gonads of the males
and females are small yet many are still eating very well.  Lots of smelt in the stomachs lately.

Rogers City
Much larger fish this year.  On average 10-15lbs fish all the time and many Chinooks reaching the upper
teens and low twenties.  Anglers have been very happy.  The numbers are not like they use to be but fish
size is definitely a plus this year.  More numbers of fish will hopefully be coming in it seems like it.
Most are being taken south towards calcite break wall to Adams pt.  Some are taken in shallow water while
others have been taken 70-110ft of water.  All are fishing the top half of the water column though.  Good
colors have been green, green and silver, blue, blue and silver, white, bloody nose, green dolphin, blue
dolphin, lug watermelon, and black and white.  There has been a good bite right at sun up and a good bite
right after the sun sets for the day.  Glow stuff is a must during these times. Jplugs along with flashers or attractors are starting to work very well.  White on white or green glow with a black ladder back has
Presque Isle
Finally some fish being taken mostly Chinooks lakers and walleyes.  They seem to be getting them 65-110ft
of water and fishing the structure between the 2 lighthouses or straight out from the red can at the harbor.  Fishing the top 2/3 of the water column has been the best.  Good colors have been green, green and silver,
blue, blue and silver, white, bloody nose, green dolphin, blue dolphin, lug watermelon, and black and white.
There has been a good bite right at sun up and a good bite right after the sun sets for the day.  Glow stuff
is a must during these times. Jplugs along with flashers or attractors are starting to work very well.
White on white or green glow with a black ladder back has been super.

Key has been to find structure and go in and out of it.  Also find the baitfish.
Stay on active fish as well.  Over this last week have I have weighed 4 20lb
Chinooks awesome to see. Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.

8-9-09
THE SALMON ARE HERE BUT NOT IN NUMBERS BUT SIZE IS BIGGER. WEATHER AND ITS INSTABILITY CONTINUES TO HAMPER
THE FISHING EFFORTS. FIND ACTIVE FISH STAY ON THEM HAS BEEN A REAL KEY.

ROGERS CITY
FINDING ACTIVE FISH HASN'T BEEN EASY BUT IF THEY EVER DECIDE TO TURN ON THERE WILL BE PLENTY TO CATCH.
ANGLERS ARE MARKING PLENTY OF FISH AND BAIT. GOOD PLACES TO TRY HAVE BEEN STRAIGHT OUT WEST TOWARDS 40MI PT
OR EAST TOWARDS SWAN BAY AND ADAMS PT. GOOD DEPTHS TO FISH HAVE BEEN 50-100FT. FISH THE TOP HALF OF
THE WATER COLUMN FOR BEST RESULTS. GOOD COLORS HAVE BEEN GREEN AND SILVER, GREEN, BLUE AND SILVER, WHITE AND
BLACK OR GLOW STUFF EARLY AND LATE. ATTRACTORS WITH FLIES SUCH AS WHITE ON WHITE HAS BEEN GOOD.
J PLUGS IN GREEN, BLUE OR YELLOW TAIL HAS ALSO TAKEN A FEW. A GOOD MIX OF KINGS A FEW LAKERS
STEELIES CAN BE CAUGHT.

PRESQUE ISLE
NICE KINGS BUT FEW IN BETWEEN. GOOD DEPTHS HAVE BEEN 60-95FT OF WATER AND FISHING THE TOP HALF OF THE WATER COLUMN.
SPOONS MOSTLY. GOOD COLORS HAVE BEEN YELLOW, GREEN AND SILVER, BLUE AND SILVER, GREEN YELLOWTAIL, AND WHITE.
GLOW STUFF EARLY AND LATE HAS BEEN GOOD. ANGLERS ARE GETTING KINGS, LAKERS WITH AN OCCASIONAL WALLEYE AND STEELIE
ALONG WITH A COHO OR TWO.

A KEY IS TO FIND ACTIVE FISH AND STAY ON THEM DON'T LEAVE AS THOSE MAY BE THE ONLY ONES FEEDING OR ACTIVE.
UNTIL NEXT WEEK TIGHT LINES AND GOOD LUCK FISHING.
8-2-09
FINALLY SOME LARGER ADULT KINGS SHOWING UP. NO REAL NUMBERS YET BUT DESCENT SIZED FISH. FIND THE STRUCTURE AND
BAITFISH HAS BEEN KEY.

ROGERS CITY
FISHING STRAIGHT OUT AND SOUTH TOWARDS SWAN BAY TO ADAMS PT HAS BEEN THE BEST. THE BEST DEPTHS HAVE BEEN FROM
45-90 FT OF WATER AND FISHING THE TOP HALF OF THE WATER COLUMN. GOOD COLORS HAVE BEEN THE GREENS, ALONG WITH
WHITE, BLUE, AND ORANGE. SPOONS FOR THE MOST PART ALTHOUGH SOME J Plugs ALONG WITH ATTRACTORS FLIES OR SQUIDS
HAVE ALSO BEEN USED.

PRESQUE ISLE
SLOW WITH AM OCCASIONAL SALMON AND LAKERS BEING TAKEN. GOOD DEPTHS HAVE BEEN 50-90FT STRAIGHT OFF THE RED CAN FROM
THE HARBOR.

WEATHER CONTINUES TO GIVE THE ANGLERS A TOUGH TIME AND HAS ALSO SLOWED THE BITE. A VERY EARLY AND LATE BITE WITH
GLOW STUFF HAS BEEN Taking SOME SALMON AS WELL.
7-26-09
Well the wind conditions have improved but we have been hampered with lots of wet weather along with thunderstorms
scattered about. We have also had some favorable winds which has cooled the water along with that comes fog.
We have also had our share of that this past week. Anglers have been going out, they also have been rewarded with
good catches of a well mixed box. Kings, Steelies, Lakers, a few Coho, atlantics, and a whopper brown were taken
this past week. There has been a great variety in size of the kings from 3lbs-18lbs. Lots of the 4-12lb range
fish being taken. With a lot of east and southeast winds this past week it has cooled the water temps down.
Lots of cold water has packed into the favorite fishing grounds and the fish have been become very active.
Lots of lost fish due to broken lines and fish getting into the downrigger cables. They have been very feisty and full of fight.

Rogers City
Straight out of the harbor has been good along with heading west towards 40 mile pt. Good depths have been from
50-110ft of water. Most of the action has been from half way down up to the top. Downriggers have been good
furthur down while leadcores in 3-7 colors has been super off planer boards along with dipsey divers run back at least 100ft.
Downriggers have been the best 25-55ft down. Good colors have been blue and silver, blue and glow white, orange and white
glow, black and white glow yellowtail, purple glow, green and silver, green glow. Anything that glows has been very good early
before sun up and after the sun retreats for the day. Lots and lots of baitfish have been marked on a consistent basis
as of late, smelt along with stickle backs and a few alewives have been seen in the stomachs.

Presque Isle
Cold water should help improve action. Some salmon have been caught but very scattered. Good depths seem to be from 50-120ft
and look for the structure. Good spots to try are straight out from the harbor, north between the 2 light houses and even
furthur north towards the farm and black point. Fish the top 55ft for best results. Downriggers and leadcores in 3-7 colors
off boards have been good along with dipsey divers set back at least 100ft. Good colors have been the blues, greens,
oranges up high and purples and blacks deeper.

Tip for the week
If active fish are not around try fragging bottom many have been taking this past week doing that. Also look for the structure
points seem to have been very good as of late. If the water is cold fish shallow like 30-50ft as there has been lots of bait in
very close.

A tounement was held Sat the biggest king was 18lbs, and a big brown taken 18.75lbs. All the boats were able to get their 5
fish weigh in, most of the fish silver with very few Lakers which was nice to see. Salmon are around it just takes a little
more time to seek them out. Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.
7-19-09
SUMMER MAY FINALLY RETURN ALONG WITH VERY FAVORABLE WINDS FOR THE BIG LAKE AND GOOD CONDITIONS FOR CATCHING FISH.
LATELY LOTS OF WEST AND NORTHWEST WINDS HAS PILED WARM WATER IN THE FISHING GROUNDS. A MIXED BAG OF SALMON,
STEELIES, LAKERS WITH AN OCCASIONAL ATLANTIC, COHO, AND BROWN BEING TAKEN. BEING JUST AS NOMADIC AS THE FISH ARE
ALONG WITH FISHING STRUCTURE AND FINDING BAITFISH HAVE BEEN KEY IN CATCHING THE SALMON. I HAVE BEEN SEEING SMELT,
STICKLEBACKS AND AN OCCASIONAL ALEWIFE IN THE THE STOMACHS. SMALLER 3-4IN SPOONS HAVE BEEN BETTER.

ROGERS CITY
STRAIGHT OUT OF THE HARBOR, WEST TOWARDS 40MI PT OR SOUTH BEST TO TRY DEPTHS 80-100FT OF WATER FISHING 70-85 DOWN
WITH DOWNRIGGERS OR 59-70FT OF WATER AND FISHING ABOUT HALFWAY DOWN. THE TOP 25FT USING 3 AND 5 COLOR LEADCORE
WITH PLANER BOARDS FOR STEELIES.GOOD COLORS GREEN AND SILVER, GREEN, YELLOWS AND BLACK AND WHITES ANYTHING THAT
GLOWS EARLY AND LATE.

PRESQUE ISLE
BEST DEPTHS 70-95FT OF WATER AND FISHING DOWN 65-75FT GOOD PLACES HAVE BEEN STRAIGHT OUT OF THE HARBOR AND
NORTH BETWEEN THE 2LIGHTHOUSES.

INDIAN TRAP NETS ARE FROM THE RED CAN AT THE HARBOR AND SOUTH PLEASE USE CAUTION. THEY PLAN TO BE THERE FOR
THE SEASON. UNTIL NEXT WEEK TIGHT LINES AND
GOOD LUCK FISHING.
7-13-09

Its been a tough go of it since the 4th of July. We have had nothing but fronts coming in and out along with lots of wind.
It come from one direction one day and then the next day from another direction. No stable weather and its been very
tough for anglers to even get out with rough water. The good news is if things stabilize out there should be some fish
anglers are marking some nice fish along with some bait. I have also checked a few fish with some alewives in them over
the weekend.

Rogers City
Offshore fishing is the best bet. Straight out off the 40 mile pt light starting in about 170-250ft of water has been
very good when able to get out. Many a times scum lines have formed. Anglers fishing that deep are getting a very
nice mixed bag of kings, Coho, Steelhead, Lakers, atlantics and pinks. Fish the top 40ft with 3-7 colors of leadcore
off planer boards or fish downriggers high. Anything with a dominate orange pattern has been very good. Yellowtails,
blue, green and glows have all been successful colors to go with. Anglers are fishing in close as well but having issues
getting fish to bite. The fish are there along with baitfish but they just wont turn on. The other thing is we have had
a lot of west and northwest wind which has packed 60 degree water from top to bottom all in here. Until it cools some
fishing is going to be hit and miss. The good news is there was a small tourney here Sat. It was not dominated by lake
trout many kings but nothing more than 10lbs. Weather conditions were absolutely terrible with 5ft waves to be fishing in.

Presque Isle
Not much to report on pretty much the same story as Rogers City.

Keys for the week
Find cold water and take advantage of calm days to head out to deep water. In close look for structure and bait fish and
find cold water.
7-5-09
Fishing has been tough for the most part. The salmon are still very scattered and the small Lakers have been very pesky.
The weather also has not been very good with a lot of wind from the west and northwest which brings in warm
water which makes for tough fishing.

Rogers City
Awesome is the word for the offshore fishery. If you like chasing steelies and other species offshore its that time
of year for it. Anglers heading out have been fishing between 150-220ft of water. The real key is to find the
scum slicks that carries food etc for the fish. The fish are very high which means leadcore slide divers, drop weights
with small amts of weight all have been working. Leadcores of 3-7 colors have been super. Using it off planer boards
to the side. A real mixed with steelies, pinks, Lakers, Chinook and atlantics have been taken. Small spoons that are
mostly orange in nature have been the best colors. Bright colors such as green, silver and the oranges have been the
best producers. In closer the fishing has been on the slow side. some kings have been taken but very spotty yet.
They have been trolling 45-120ft of water and fishing around half way down for them. Good colors have been the greens,
blues and a mixture of the 2.

Presque Isle
Slow is the word for now. No attempts of offshore fishing has been made here but worth a good try. Small Lakers continue
to be taken. Anglers are trying for salmon but with little success yet. Another week or so. Caution Indian trap
nets have been placed in near by waters from the red can south to Stoneport and past Stoneport so be very careful.

If the weather is calm enough for fishing 5-8 miles out its worth a try. Otherwise fish the structure and look for baitfish
for best results. Still in the transition zone for another week or two. Until next week tight lines and
good luck fishing.
6-28-09

Fishing continues to be in a transitional mode for right now switching from lake trout fishing into the salmon
and offshore steelhead action. A few salmon continue to show up as well as some more steelhead along with
atlantics, Lakers and an occasional brown and walleye. The larkers larger lake trout have moved out deep while
there are plenty of smaller ones to be caught but in the Rogers City and Presque Isle area the min size is 22in.

Rogers City
Lake trout has slowed and many of the ones being taken now are undersized and are more of a pest than an asset.
Most anglers are now making the switch for salmon and steelhead along with the hopes of a brown or Atlantic.
Fishing for steelhead in the offshore waters has begun. An angler over the weekend limited out with 6 steelies.
The best fishing for those guys has been out deep like 130-190ft of water. Look for scum lines or bug lines.
Fish high using planer boards with 1-5 colors of lead core or small 1.5oz weights. Good colors have been anything
orange red pink or black and silver. The smaller spoons like the walleye spoons or reg silver streaks have been
the best. They also have been picking up a few Coho's Lakers and Chinooks out there as well. Anglers are
having marginal success for Chinooks. Just not to many around yet and are very scattered. They have been mostly
fishing inside 100ft and fishing the top 45-50ft with downriggers, slide divers, dipseys, lead core, and drop weights.
Good colors have been blue, blue and silver, blue dolphin, green dolphin, yellowgold, orange glow, blue glow, and
black and white. Anything that glows early and late should work as well. Good places to try for salmon have been
straight out west up to 40 mile pt, and south towards Adams pt. Find structure and food has been very important.
Right now the fish are moving around alot
right now.

Presque Isle
Lakers can still be taken but lots of sorting to get legal size fish. Most have been taking in close from 30-60ft
of water fishing very close to the bottom. Once again dodgers with spin glos or cowbells with spinglos have been the ticket.
A few have begun fishing for salmon fish are scattered here as well no reel pattern has formed yet. Most have been taken
inside 100ft of water and fishing the top 25-55ft.

If the weather settles out and we get some very flat calm days look for the offshore steelhead fishery to take off
big time. The horse or stable flies are hatching over the water right now. Look for scum lines filled with these
critters and surface feeding going on. As for the rest of the fish find the structure and look for baitfish or food.

6-21-09
FISHING MAY FINALLY IMPROVE AS IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE FINALLY GOING TO SEE SUMMER. RIGHT NOW THE FISHING IS SORT OF
IN A TRANSITION FROM LAKE TROUT GOING INTOSALMON AND THE MIXED BAG. A GREAT MIXED BAG IS BEGINNING TO SHOW UP WITH
CHINOOKS,STEELHEAD,ATLANTICS,LAKERS AND OCCASIONAL BROWN AND WALLEYE.

ROGERS CITY
LAKERS HAVE SLOWED BUT STILL CAN BE TAKEN. TRY 35-70FT OF WATER OFF ADAMS PT, SEAGULL PT AND AROUND THE STATE PARK.
FISH THE BOTTOM 10FT FOR BEST RESULTS WITH DODGERS AND SPINGLOS OR COWBELLS WITH SPIN GLOS. THE CHINOOKS STEELHEAD
AND ATLANTICS HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF SEAGULL PT AND FROM US 23 UP TO 40MI PT AND PAST IT. TRY FISHING DEPHS FROM 45-90FT
OF WATER AND FISHING THE TOP 25-55FT. GOOD COLORS HAVE BEEN BLUE AND SILVER YELLOWTAIL, GREEN, YELLOW AND GREEN, ORANGE
AND SILVER, ORANGE, AND FIRE TIGER. BODY BAITS IN A RAINBOW TROUT PATTERN OR FIRE TIGER HAVE ALSO BEEN GOOD.
WATER IS STILL COLD BEST TO FISH SHALLOW AND HIGH IN THE WATER COLUMN.

PRESQUE ISLE
LOTS OF SMALL UNDERSIZE LAKERS BEING TAKEN. GOOD PLACES HAS BEEN IN NORTH BAY OFF THE BIG LIGHTHOUSE PT. SOME SALMON
AND STEELHEAD ARE ALSO BEING TAKEN. FISH 45-80FT FOR BEST RESULTS AND FISH THE TOP55FT OR SO.

IF WEATHER CONTINUES TO STABILIZE LOOK FOR STEELHEAD AND CHINOOK ACTION TO PICK UP FOR 4TH OF JULY.
UNTIL NEXT WEEK TIGHT LINES AND GOOD LUCK FISHING.

6-14-09
Fishing continues to be excellent for lake trout and there seems to be a hint that the water temps are beginning to warm
up as there is a couple of kings starting to show up. Along with the kings some atlantics along with an occasional
steelhead and brown as well. The surface waters are now anywhere from 48-52 but below things are still in the mid 40's.
The Chinooks taken have had small lake herring in them so far. The lakers are moving around a little more so hunting
them down has been the trick, once they are located plenty can be taken more like limits.

Rogers City
Very good for Lakers with many limits in short order. Some smaller throw backs have started showing up as well which
means the bigger ones are headed to deeper water. Good places to fish have been from 30-60ft of water and fishing the bottom
10ft. Cowbells with spinglos or dodgers with spinglos have been the best, a few have been taken on blue and silver spoons
or green spoons. Good places to fish for them have been around swan bay and adams pt to the south and between sea gull pt
and 40 mile pt to the north. The salmon have been taken from 40-100ft of water and very scattered right
now. Most have been taken in the top 60ft with blue and silver spoons or green and silver spoons or yellowtail colored spoons.

Presque Isle
Very good lake trout fishing with lots of limits. Fish seem to be scattered in the 30-80ft range of water but the shallower
they are the closer to the bottom. Out deeper they have been suspended15-20ft off the bottom. Cowbells with spinglos or
dodgers with spinglos have been good the best. Spoons again blue and silver green and silver or orange and silver have also
taken a few.

Tip for the week
Find rocky bottoms as the gobies love the rocks and the lakers will be right there. Structure has also been important for
this week. the salmon seem to be a little deeper due to the lake herring in them so fish a little on the deep side although
anglers have also taken them in very close to shore as well. Theare on the search for food so be mobile til things settle out.
Finally the weather looks like it might stabilize out some. If it does things should really begin to pick up for the silver
fish over the next couple of weeks. Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.

6-7-09
Fishing has been excellent for larkers at both ports when the weather decides to behave itself. Lots of limits and many boats
getting at least 3 per boat. The cool weather has kept the water temps very favorable for Lakers to stay close by to shore.
The Atlantic salmon have also decided to bite a little better. A number of boats have been running lines up high and doing
fairly well for them right now.

Rogers City
Lakers and more larkers. The water is still not above 50 on the surface yet. Most anglers are fishing the 20-50 depths with
great success. Cowbells with spin glos and silver dodgers with spin glos have been the best. They are fishing rather close
to the bottom lime 5-10ft from the bottom. In the shallower water they have been high lining with some weight, in the deeper
waters its been downriggers.

Atlantics have finally started to show their presence. Many boats are getting at least one, anglers targeting them are doing
a little better. They have been hitting in the 20-30ft of water for the most part and fishing high in the water column.
Using planer boards with either body baits or spoons have been good. Bright colors like orange and silver, yellow, firetiger,
green, pink, or rainbow type colors have gone over well with them. The key is to fish high and get the lures away from the
boat for best results.

Presque Isle
Excellent lake trout fishing in the 15-30ft of water right now. Most anglers are highling cowbells with spinglos or dodgers
with spin glos with a little bit of weight or they are only running downrigger balls down 10ft or so and long leads off the
ball for best results. Off the big light house point has been red hot. Fishing in north bay has also been excellent.
Stoneport has also been a good place to try especially for atlantics. Fish high and get the lures out and away from the boat.

We fished one day this week and picked up 6 Lakers an Atlantics and lost 2 other atlantics. From the time we put the boat in
and pulled it out it was 2 hours total which was just fantastic. Key for the week is to find a rocky bottom where gobies like
to hide. The Lakers have been just chuck full of them and huge ones as well. Once you locate the fish try and keep turning
back on them to fill up your box. Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.

5-31-09
If it wasn't for the wind, storms and rain for most of the week the fishing was good. It was good to get the rain as it has been very dry
in this area so the rain was a welcome site. Despite the terrible weather fishing remained very good for lake trout with many
reported limits from both ports. If there was a window of opportunity anglers took advantage of it getting out and catching fish.

Rogers City
Lake trout fishing very good. Good places to try are south between swan bay and Adams pt. Heading north around sea gull pt has
been good and then from about the state park up to 40 mile pt has also been good. The best depths have been 25-60ft of water and
fishing the bottom 15ft or so. Good baits of choice have been cowbells with spin glos or silver dodgers with spin glos. Spoons and
bodybaits have also been taking a few fish. Good colors have been green, silver and blue, rainbow trout, orange and gold, copper
spoon with orange and red on it, fire tiger and black and silver. Use lures that look like smelt or gobies. Not much in the way of
salmon but an occasional Atlantic salmon along with a stray brown have been caught from time to time. Fish the shorelines for best
results. The water temps have cooled off some so fishing close to shore still remains the best bet fro now.

Presque Isle
Good lake trout fishing when anglers can get out. Good depths to fish have been from 45-70ft of water. Good places have been between
the 2 light houses or north bay. South towards stoneport has also been good especially for an Atlantic salmon or two. Anglers are
trolling bodybaits and spoons up high around stoneport catching a few atlantics. A larker or 2 cant be ruled out as well. The Lakers
are mostly being taken on silver dodgers with spin glos.

Tip for the week
The fish have really scattered due to all of the wind so once the fish are located stay on them and dont leave them. Until next week
tight lines and good luck fishing.

5-24-09
I'm finally happy to say the fishing has finally picked up and is excellent. Both Rogers City and Presque Isle are showing
with some excellent number of lake trout being taken by anglers especially over the holiday weekend. There has even been a couple
of kings taken along with a couple of Atlantic salmon and even a pink salmon in the mix. The water is finally warming up and the
surface temps are in the upper 40's now.

Rogers City
Limits of lake trout. Good places to fish have been 40 mile pt, seagull pt and anywhere in-between. Good depths to try have been
anywhere from 30-55ft of water and fishing the bottom 15ft. Good lures have been cowbells with spin glos and a silver dodger with
spin glows. Spoons have also taken a few fish , try gold and copper with orange on it.

Presque Isle
Limits of lake trout. Good depths of water have been from 15-40ft of water and then the 55-70ft of water. Mostly straight out
from the red can or between the 2 light houses north of the harbor or even in north bay. Cowbells with spin glos or silver dodger
with spin glos have been the best. Spoons have also taken a few fish as well. Orange and gold, blue and silver or fire tiger colors
have been good.

Tip for the week
Get one fish be sure to go back over that area again as the fish have been schooled together. Structure and rocks have been another
important thing to keep in mind. Lake trout have been eating gobies and the gobies like to hide in the rocks. Until next week tight
lines and good luck fishing.

Fishing this past week has been very tough. The main culprit has been the weather. We are certainly looking forward to some descent
weather predicted for this coming week. Lots of east wind, cold temps and damp weather has really put a damper on things.

Rogers City
Lake trout are there if you can manage to win the war with the weather in getting out. Try fishing anywhere from 15-30ft of water
and sometimes a little deeper. the fish have been moving in and out some. Fishing long lines with a little bit of lead in shallow
and fish downriggers 5-10ft off the bottom in the deeper water. Cowbells with spin glos have been the best. In the shallow water
mix in some spoons and body baits for a variety of fish, mostly browns, a few atlantics and lake trout as well. Any where up and down
the coast has been productive.

Presque Isle
Every day down there it was windy and rough. Lakers should be found from waters 8-30ft deep right now. Try fishing the point off
north bay or right in the bay for best results. Cowbells with spin glos fished 5-10ft off the bottom with weights and downriggers.
Until next week tight lines and good luck fishing.

Finally some fishing has starting to take place.  The water temps are still cold. Surface temps right
now are still in the low 40's but warmer right along the Shoreline and in the river water in swan bay and the
brown water coming from the river mouths into the lake in the area. Trolling the shorelines is the name of the
game right now. Stick with the warmest water possible.

Rogers City
Anglers fishing from the break wall continue to pick up and occasional brown, Atlantic and walleye.
Casting spoons and body baits early in the day or the last hour or two of daylight has been the best.
Good colors have been chartreuse and silver, blue and silver, fire tiger, or green and silver.  Body bait
colors have been baits that look like smelt or shiners.
Boat anglers have finally had a fair chance this week with the weather behaving some. Depending upon
who you talk with success has been there with Lakers for the most part.  The fish are where you find them
right now. Shallow water seems to be better and towards Calcite harbor and Swan bay and 2 good picks to try
around. Troll waters up to 45ft deep and high line cowbells with spin glos for best results, especially in
waters less than 20ft deep. Most anglers have been adding a small amount of lead to the line just to get it
down some, deeper than 30ft of water fish with downriggers 5-10ft off the bottom. Cowbells with spin glos
or a silver 00 dodger with a spin glos has been working.
Anglers fishing for browns and Atlantics are coming up with a few fish. As the water warms just a bit
more the Atlantics and browns should become more active. Best places to fish for them are along the shorelines.
The waters from 8-25ft deep should work the best.  Fish with planer boards and long leads of line as the water
is very clear. Body baits and small spoons should work the best.  Good colors are fire tiger, blue and silver,
chartreuse and silver, smelt like colors, shiner like colors, orange and silver, orange glow, and greens or blues.
Casting and anchoring in swan bay has also produced some browns, atlantics and walleyes.

Presque Isle
It’s been rather windy and rough but Friday the weather was nice with some angler out fishing
finally. One of them had been out a number of times in the last week. Fishing has been there but the catching
has been very spotty and inconsistent. The fish are scattered all over from all of the winds and crazy weather. He
did limit out on lake trout with very nice fish.  They seem to be a bit deeper than anticipated but they should move
in close to shore very soon.  Good depths to try are anywhere from 8ft all the way out to 70ft of water and fish
just 5-10ft off the bottom. Cowbells with spin glos or the silver dodger 00 with spin glos are the lures of choice.

Tip for the week
Lakers that I have been seeing are just packed with gobies and some smelt. Gobies love the rocky bottom
so look for the rocks and fish them.  The gobies are there and so will the Lakers.  Seek out the warmest water
possible the brown water coming from Swan River or Trout River north of town. Hang on as the water warms the
fishing should really begin to heat up. I expect some red hot lake trout action to start next weekend.
Tight lines and good luck fishing.

Fishing this week has been greatly hampered with bad weather wind rain and cold. Once the weather changes
so will the fishing.  The surface water on the big lake is around 42 degrees. Finding the brown river water which
is a degree two or warmer is almost critical right now.
Lake trout season is now open size limit is 22in for both ports. They will be right in shallow water
as well.

Rogers City
Some browns Atlantic and an occasional walleye is being taken casting of the wall with casting
spoons like krocodiles and cleos.  Body baits have also taken fish.  Good colors have been chartreuse and silver,
blue and silver, fire tiger and colors that represent smelt and shiners. In the boats it’s been a slow go. I have
seen just a couple of Lakers taken. The weather has been bad and the water is much colder than it was this time
last year. It is about a week to two weeks a away for good action with fishing shallow like 8-30ft of water.
Try high lining cowbells with spin glos for best results for Lakers. Try planer boards with an assortment of
body baits and small spoons for browns Atlantic and even Lakers.  Everything is very shallow.  Good colors to
try are chartreuse and silver, blue and silver, fire tiger, orange, or stuff that matches shiners and smelt.
Concentrated on swan bay or calcite harbor as anglers fishing from shore have been getting a few fish there
casting spoons.

Presque Isle
Nothing this week for angling pressure.  A couple of anglers off the docks saw a number of Atlantic
salmon in the harbor.  Try casting spoons or fishing with live minnows below a bobber for best results.
Lakers should be here especially in north bay and in the shallow waters.  Try high lining cowbells with spin
glos for best results or fish just off bottom with downriggers a little deeper in that 30-40ft of water.

Keys for the week is shallow water and find the river water and fish brightly colored body baits and
spoons. Until next week, tight lines and good luck fishing.
